With help from a PetSmart Charities grant of more than $30,000, the Humane Society of Moab Valley set out to performe 380 free dog and cat sterilizations for pets living in zip codes 84535 and 84511 in San Juan County, Utah.
“This is an exceptional opportunity and one that will end when the grant money runs out,” says Leigh Ryan, Executive Director of the Humane Society of Moab Valley. “We really want to see pet owners in the Monticello and Blanding zip codes take advantage of these free spay/neuter surgeries to help reduce the unwanted pet population in this area.”
PetSmart Charities aims to proactively prevent pet homelessness through increased spay and neuter efforts. With the help of animal welfare partners, such as Humane Society of Moab Valley, PetSmart Charities has funded over 1.4 million spay and neuter surgeries in the U.S. since 2009.
“By providing no-cost spay and neuter services to local pet parents, the Humane Society of Moab Valley is taking a proactive approach to preventing unplanned litters, lowering shelter intake and reducing pet homelessness,” said Jenny Aho, regional relationship manager for PetSmart Charities. “Through their lifesaving work, the Moab community will be one step closer to finding forever homes for all pets in need.”
“Our vision is that every pet has a safe, healthy, happy life and a forever home. We have worked hard to make that happen in the Moab area and we want to work toward that end in San Juan County. This grant will go a long way toward helping us to do that,” said Saxon Sharpe, President of the Humane Society of Moab Board of Trustees.
